Vote Toibin No1

Cllr Peadar Tóibín, a native of Bridge St, Navan, is the son of well known garage proprietor Jack Tobin and former Banba Hall Naoinra teacher Bean Tóibín. Peadar has a degree in Economics and Politics from University College Dublin and Postgraduate in Enterprise from the Michael Smurfitt School of Business. Cllr Tóibín is a self employed Management Consultant and the founder of the Navan based firm réalt* Consulting. Peadar has over 5 years experience working with small to medium sized enterprise on behalf of County Enterprise Boards through out the country, Scottish Enterprise, InterTradeIreland and Border Innovation Gateway.

Peadar has worked as a “Recognised Teacher” with Queen’s University Belfast and is currently a director on the board of Meath Tourism. Cllr Tóibín is also the Leas Cathaoirleach of Conradh na Gaeilge, An Uaimh. Peadar was co-opted to Navan Town Council in November 2007 and since then has made a major impact in the town. He is the co-author of Sinn Féin’s detailed ‘Developing Navan’ an economic submission made by the party as part of the Council’s 5 years development plan.

Earlier this year Peadar also met with Chinese business leaders on a recent trip to Shanghai in an effort to increase business and enterprise ties between the two regions. In an effort to combat Anti Social Behaviour Peadar tabled and passed the ‘Alcohol Tracing System’ motion at council level. This system is designed to allow An Gardaí to trace alcohol found in the ownership of juveniles back to the offending off licences. As part of his Meath Tourism work Peadar proposed the opening up of a complete Boyne walk in order to create tourism jobs and income in the county.

Peadar tabled and passed a motion calling for all new roads being built in Navan to have cycle lanes installed from the start and for Sustainable Energy Ireland to Audit Council buildings. Peadar also tabled and passed a motion calling for Irish language names to be given to all new residential developments within the town. Peadar has also successfully set up numerous Residents Associations throughout the town in order to help represent the needs of all in Navan and holding the council to account.

Dominic Hannigan, a man who has fought and stood shoulder to shoulder with those people who have been brutalised by the corrupt and the criminal. Dominic Hannigan has been fighting for our frontline workers, helping those in difficulty and has been a fighting force for the good people of Meath. We need people like Dominic Hannigan in Dail Eireann so that we can be sure we are being fully represented and that our corner is not being left to people such as former Fianna Fail Minister Noel Dempsey who represented his own selffish interests before that of the good people of Meath.

Healthcare Meath General Election Fianna Fail -

Fianna Fail have left behind a Healthcare system that has seen many people die needlessly, young women unable to get cervical cancer treatment, women unable to get smear and breast scanning services, tens of thousands of people who have suffered the indignity of lying on hospital trolleys while Government Ministers and their bagmen got private beds in private hospitals, 5,500 children denied operations, men, women and children tortured by unsupervised butchers such as Dr Michael Neary. Many people are in their grave today because of the greed and self serving of a corrupt and criminal administration lead by Fianna Fail over the past 14 years, it is time to say no more and to challenge the weasel words of Gabshites such as Micheal Martin, the man destined to be the bridesmaid but never the bride.

New Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has today condemned Fine Gael's plans for reforming the health service and defended his record as minister for health.

Speaking this morning he said he was "aghast" at the Fine Gael proposal "in terms of dismantling the national structure again and going back to independent republics for each individual hospital across the country".

"That's a recipe for poor quality, for poor outcomes and lack of standards."

Noting there were 55 agencies in the health service when he became minister, Mr Martin said: "I said enough is enough.

"Why did we go to a national system? I wanted better outcomes for patients in heart disease and cancer," he said. "I would argue with anyone that we have transformed the way we have dealt with heart disease in this country. There is no argument with that. We have also transformed cancer care in this country," Mr Martin told RTÉ radio.

Suicide Ireland 26/1/2011 -

Suicide 26/1/2011

FIVE OF the six cases that came before the Offaly Coroner’s Court this week involved mature men taking their own lives. That shocking event caused acting coroner Brian Mahon to draw public attention to “a really serious, developing situation” where suicide was becoming rampant, particularly in rural areas.

Suicide is every family’s worst nightmare and, traditionally, it is rarely discussed. That public attitude towards mental illness and suicide must change if help is to be provided for – and accepted by – people at risk.

In 1987 there were 245 registered suicides in the Irish Republic (population, 4 million), in 1998 there were 478 suicides in the Irish Republic. This is an increase of 110%. Many suicides in Ireland are not registered as suicide as there remains a stigma attached to a person taking their own life. Not so many years ago it was a crime to try or succeed in taking your own life. Hence the stigma remains.

It seems to me that rarely a week goes past now but I hear that someone has taken their own life. While for the person committing suicide it may appear that they are doing everyone a favour, they are in fact leaving behind a great deal of pain and hurt.

When my 22 year old cousin took his own life after a silly row with his girlfriend, my family was so very badly hurt. My Uncle has never recovered from having to bury his young son. Time and again we are reminded that people are struggling, that people need help, but our world is too busy to listen.

The suicide rate in Ireland today is averaging approx 500 persons per year, young and old, rich and poor. What common threat weaves them all together we will never know? I myself when I thought all was lost tried to take my own life, I was disappointed when I failed, but now I am glad I did not succeed.

Yesterday I attended the funeral of a young mother of three. She had disappeared on the 12th of this month. Many hundreds of people and the emergency services had worked tirelessly to find the young mother. But it was all in vein.

This young Mother, who had everything to live for, seems to have made her way to the near-by river and taken her own life. The Police (An Garda Siochana) are not investigating the matter. It appears that this young mother was suffering from depression. What a terrible tragedy to watch three young children walk behind their mother's coffin. Watch as their mother is placed in the ground as she begins her journey from this world.
The Priest speaking at the funeral said, "She was friendly and popular" and "Always put other people first". Surely we as a community, a people, wherever you are must ask why this is happening. Why people are so desperate that they feel the only way out is by death.

No flowers appeared in the Chapel yesterday, rather the family had placed collection boxes so that people could give money to the river rescue team who had tried so hard to find their loving mother and wife. A sea of tears filled the Chapel as hymns were carried by the cold morning air.

Hearts were broken yesterday, and hearts will continue to be broken by that cruel loneliness that brings a human being to an untimely death.

Pornography Former Central Bank Manager 108 Images of Babies being Sexually Abused -

A 65-year-old man has been convicted of possessing hundreds of thousands of child pornography images and videos.
The jury took twenty minutes to find Raphael Farina guilty of having material which included over 100 images of babies. The court heard he stored the files on his computer and on hundreds of discs in a cardboard box which he kept at work.
Farina of Crow Street, Temple Bar, Dublin pleaded not guilty to three counts of possession of child pornography at his home on June 6th, 2007. His defence counsel did not contest any of the evidence against him during the trial and told the judge they were only contesting the validity of the search warrant used by gardaí.
The jury of nine men and two women returned a unanimous guilty verdict after the one day trial. Judge Patrica Ryan remanded Farina on continuing bail until next month on condition he signs on three times a week and surrenders his passport.
Sergeant Paul Murphy told the prosecution that gardaí called to Farina’s home with a search warrant as part of an investigation into child pornography. Farina let the search take place and admitted immediately that he possessed the material saying, “there’s no point in denying it”.
He pointed out a computer and a cardboard box full of discs which he said he had taken home from work the previous day.
He said he had been downloading images since he got a computer in 1997 and had downloaded a mixture of adult and child pornography before saving it on floppy disks and CDs. He admitted that he had thousands of images and that some of them were “pretty graphic.”
He said he got the files from websites or online bulletin boards and that he never took the pictures himself or paid for them. He admitted masturbating to the files “on the odd occasion”.

The main prosecution evidence came from Detective Gerard Keane, a computer forensic examiner who has worked with Europol and Interpol. He initially examined Farina’s computer, where he found around 10,000 images and videos contained in folders labelled with titles such as “freshly creamed lolitas” and “prepubes”. There were also 108 images of pornography involving babies.

Det Gda Keane then examined a box and envelope which contained 207 CDs, 8 DVDs and 23 floppy disks. He said it was not possible to say exactly how many files these contained but it was between 100,000 and 700,000.
Farina was remanded on bail to be sentenced next month.

We need young vibrant people in Dail Eireann so that real change can be brought about, Peadar Toibin and Dominic Hannigan are two such young people, give Meath a fighting chance with these young energetic people.

Previous Up Dates

Today Tuesday 18th January 2011 Brian Cowen TD will retain his leadership by securing 39 votes against 32 votes of the parliamentary party for Michael Martin TD, however, it will make no difference who leads this rabble as they are destined for the greatest electoral defeat in their history. What we need in the Dail is a few good men and I am going to Vote for Peadar Toibin Sinn Fein and Dominic Hannigan Labour.

Previous Up Dates

Fianna Fail's Noel Dempsey has announced that he will not run in the forth coming general election following a devasting poll carried out in Meath by this site. Dempsey like many Fianna Fail RATs is jumping ship before the fianna fail ship sinks beneath its own weight of greed and self-serving. Noel Dempsey has contributed nothing to County Meath other than to fill his own bank account and the bank accounts of other Fianna Fail lackeys. On your bike Dempsey and take your RAT PACK with you.

Sinn Fein will take 7 seats in the forth coming general election, added to the five sitting Sinn Fein TDs will be Peadar Toibin in Meath and Mary Lou Mc Donald in Dublin.

A survey of 200 people in Navan, County Meath 9/12/2010, by Shopping in Meath showed that over 60% of those surveyed said they would vote for Sinn Fein's, Peadar Toibin, in the forth coming General Election, most people surveyed stated that they would not vote for Transport Minister Noel Dempsey or any other Fianna Fail politician.

As Brian Cowen and his Fianna Fail gambeens prepare for the sinking of the great ship "Greed and Self-serving" new opportunities are presented to Sinn Fein in the forth coming General Election. I am no fan of Sinn Fein however sometimes one must accept that certain politicians have a contribution to make to the health of the nation. Peadar Toibin is a dynamic young politician who is not detached from reality as are so many of the political elite. Peadar is a young man who practices what he preaches, he works with those less well off in our society, he stands up for our front line staff and defends the right of our people to have access to health care, education and employment. He will certainly get my vote as will Dominic Hannigan for the Labour Party, these are the type of people we need in the Dail, not Bloated Ministers who would dare to spend 70,000 Euro taking their family to America for St Patrick's Day with our tax dollars.

Dominic Hannigan Labour General Election -

Today 22nd January 2011 our country is a laughing stock all over Europe as Brian Cowen TD is forced to resign as leader of Fianna Fail by his own party, but Cowen remains the head of Government, never in the history of our nation have we had such political corruption and cowerdice, we need new people in power and we must drive out the rot of this corrupt administration, ordinary Fianna Fail members must distance themselves from this corrupt and criminal administartion.

Now that the date has been set for the General Election 2011, we the People of Meath must ensure that those who bankrupted our country are driven from office and replaced with local people who have shown their committment to the people of Meath. Peadar Toibin and Dominic Hannigan are two such people, who have stood shoulder to shoulder with those brutalised by this Fianna Failure administration and their Green Party lackeys.

Our people have been driven from the work place, driven from Mother Ireland because of the greed and self serving of a corrupt and criminal administration. Let us do this thing for future generations.

Cooking lamb casserole -

Today I have cooked Irish Lamb Casserole. Now this is a very simple meal. I simply want to share the recipe.

Firstly, I bought some lamb giggot chops, very tasty and not too expensive. I fried the chops with some onions until they became golden brown.

I then chopped some carrots and parsnips. You can add what ever veg you like. I also chopped some potatoes in half.

Having cooked the chops and onions, I added all the ingredients to the casserole dish.

I then made some stock, simply bisto granules mixed with pint of water.

I then added some seasoning, black pepper, salt, parsley and a little pinch of mint.

I then covered the dish with tin foil. Oven set at 180* (fan) , for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Absolutely beautiful meal for two, just finished it.

Dominic Hannigan Labour General Election -

Now that the date has been set for the General Election 2011, we the People of Meath must ensure that those who bankrupted our country are driven from office and replaced with local people who have shown their committment to the people of Meath. Peadar Toibin and Dominic Hannigan are two such people, who have stood shoulder to shoulder with those brutalised by this Fianna Failure administration and their Green Party lackeys.

Our people have been driven from the work place, driven from Mother Ireland because of the greed and self serving of a corrupt and criminal administration. Let us do this thing for future generations.

VOTE HANNIGAN & TOIBIN
The Choice of the People

Previous Up Dates:
Today Tuesday 18th January 2011 Brian Cowen TD will retain his leadership by securing 39 votes against 32 votes of the parliamentary party for Michael Martin TD, however, it will make no difference who leads this rabble as they are destined for the greatest electoral defeat in their history. What we need in the Dail is a few good men and I am going to Vote for Peadar Toibin Sinn Fein and Dominic Hannigan Labour.

Michaela Harte 4th Man Charged today 19/1/2011 -

A fourth man arrested yesterday by Mauritian police in connection with the murder of Michaela Harte on the Indian Ocean island last week is expected in court this morning.

According to a police spokesman, a security guard working at the hotel in which Ms Harte and her husband John McAreavey were honeymooning was taken into custody in the capital Port Louis yesterday.

Mickey Harte stood shoulder to shoulder with his son-in-law John McAreavey as they lay down the Tyrone Rose Michaela Harte McAreavey to sleep in her final resting place.

Grown men often fireless on the football field crumbled all around the small graveyard, school children cried uncontrollably as their teacher and friend was lowered into the earth. Catholic and Protestant stood side by side to say goodbye to a wonderful young woman.

An inspiration in life an Angel in death best sums up the life of Michaela Harte.

Michaela was lowered into the ground with gentleness and love, an Angel returned to the earth in the wedding dress she so proudly wore only a few days ago.

Parents grasped tightly on their children’s hands as the full magnitude of what happened to Michalea Harte finally came upon them as the clay fell down onto her coffin.

Deep painful cries could not be held back from many gathered as they looked upon Mickey and John two men now broken with pain yet united in grief.

Ladies with Rosary beads moved quickly though their prayers a way perhaps to distract them from the horrible truth. Little boys and girls who probably never knew Michaela Harte had tear marked faces as they tried to hide their sadness behind the headstones that are so cold and grey.

There was a warmth in the graveyard even though the day was cold, a warmth of a people wanting to carry the Harte and McAreavey family through this terrible time.

If Michaela could speak from the grave she would not want her family, friends and husband to suffer, she would want them to think about the next All Ireland and enjoy their memories of the Tyrone Rose whom we will never forget.

Michaela Harte Mc Areavey the Tyrone Rose RIP

Twin Babies Injured 3 month old twins Investigation -

Gardaí in Co Cork have opened an investigation after they were contacted by social services about three-month-old twins brought to hospital with head and other injuries.

Officers began the inquiry last weekend when one of the twins from Co Cork was taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH) where he was diagnosed with brain bleeds.

The baby, who was in a serious condition, was transferred to Temple Street Children’s Hospital, Dublin, where he was put on a ventilator and remains in a critical condition.

Gardaí called to the babies’ family home in a rural part of Co Cork where they spoke to the children's teenage parents and their grandparents. The second twin was later admitted to Cork University Hospital on January 9th when it was discovered he too had suffered brain bleeds.

Previous Up Date:

Micheala Harte was murdered for less than a hundred Euros, according to information gathered by police officers investigating her death on the paradise island of Mauritius last week.

The thieves who targeted the newlywed’s room only planned to slip a few rupee notes out of her purse – hoping she and her husband John McAreavey would never even know they had been robbed.

It comes after police revealed the 27-year-old had been crying as her killer strangled her.

The detective leading the probe into Michaela’s death has said that confessions by the three suspects under arrest suggested they did not even plan to take any of her jewellery – or the sterling or euro notes that were also in her purse.

Having slipped a few notes from her purse, the thieves would have been gone from her room at the Legends Hotel had she arrived just a minute or two later.

Instead, Michaela came in to get biscuits to go with her tea – almost certainly her favorite Rich Tea, brought all the way from Ireland – and surprised the robbers.

A struggle ensued and she was strangled and dumped in a half-filled bath, where she was discovered by John after he came to find out where she had gone.

Workers Avinash Treebhoowoon, 29, and Sandip Mooneea, 41, were charged on Wednesday with the murder of the teacher. They were both in the hotel room and caused Michaela’s death, police maintain.

Raj Theekoy, 33, was charged with conspiracy to murder. He allegedly passed by the room and heard Michaela scream and saw two men leave in a suspicious manner.

Detective Inspector Ranjit Singh Jokhoo, the man leading investigations into her murder, has revealed that the thieves had intended to take only a small amount of money from the couple’s room.

Det. Insp. Jokhoo said that the purse they intended to steal from, which was on a table in the honeymoon couple’s room, contained notes in three different currencies. He said: ‘There was €250, 3,500 rupees and £50.’

He said the sight of money sticking out of the purse had tempted one of the suspects, Treebhoowoon. He thought the couple wouldn’t notice if he took a small cash sum.

‘They intended to take only a small amount, probably less than €100. They were not intending to steal the purse – or even all the money. They just wanted to take a little, so that might go unnoticed. But it was while Avinash [Treebhoowoon] was in the process of opening the wallet that the lady got in.’

The officer said that both Theekoy and Treebhoowoon have given written confessions to police. Last night, Mooneea was being questioned with a view to securing a confession. Det. Insp. Jokhoo said he was confident that Mooneea would confess to killing Michaela.

‘Whether Sandip [Mooneea] confesses or not is immaterial for us,’ he said. ‘Of course, a confession would be in his own interests because if he comes up with a cock and bull story at trial, the jury will appreciate that when he had the opportunity to tell the truth, he didn’t.

Suspects: Sandip Mooneea is alleged to have strangled Michaela and muffled her cries according to police and, right, Avinash Treebhoowoon had reportedly spotted cash in the couple's hotel room

Det. Insp. Jokhoo stressed that the Mauritian police had made no errors with their investigation ‘We are sure that we have made no mistakes. We have the right people. We can speak out of experience. Of course we are not going to try these people without a proper investigation. All the evidence will be subject to close scrutiny by a court of law. I can tell you out of my own experience that we haven’t made any mistake.’

According to the police, Treebhoowoon’s sworn admissions say that the purse and a few small pieces of jewellery, which were also on the table, were spotted by the room attendant on his first visit to the room.

At some point during the couple’s stay, Treebhoowoon spoke to his colleague, Sandip Mooneea, a floor manager in the hotel, telling him about the purse stuffed with cash. He decided he would steal the money and, together with Mooneea, planned to carry out the theft when Michaela and John were out of the room.

ALLEGED WITNESS: Raj Theekoy says he heard Michaela crying out as he worked in the hotel

On Monday, the two men entered room 1025 while the couple had lunch by the pool. Minutes beforehand, Michaela told husband John that she was popping over to their room to get some off her favorite biscuits to have with her tea.

On opening the door of the ground floor room, she found Treebhoowoon with his hand in her purse.

Startled by her unexpected arrival into the room, Treebhoowoon pushed Michaela from behind and she fell to the ground, hitting her head. After rising to her feet, the 27-year-old teacher began to scream. Approaching her from behind to muffle her cries, Mooneea placed one hand over her mouth. He then placed his other arm around her neck in an attempt to stop her from moving. She is believed to have suffered compressions to the neck during a struggle and lost consciousness.

Panicked by what had happened, the two men lifted Michaela and carried her into the bathroom. They placed her in the bath and turned on the tap.

Meanwhile, Raj Theekoy, also working as a room attendant in the hotel, had heard Micheala’s screams. He saw one of his colleagues emerge from the room in what was described as an ‘unusual state’. He has told police that the man was sweating profusely.

He claims that the two men went off in different directions but at one point they met each other again. He didn’t hear what they said but when they separated again he talked to Treebhoowoon, and asked him what was wrong in the room. According to Det. Insp. Jokhoo, Treebhoowoon said to Theekoy: ‘You just keep quiet. There is nothing wrong in the room. You just keep quiet and forget about it.’

Approximately 30 minutes after his wife left a poolside restaurant where they had been eating lunch. John McAreavey made his way to the room to check on his wife. He noticed that his keycard wasn’t in his bag and, upon reaching the door, called out to Michaela to answer the door. When she failed to respond, he went to reception and asked for help in getting into the room. Once inside, he discovered his wife’s body in the bathroom.

The three suspects appeared in court on Tuesday, where they were provisionally charged in connection with the killing. The following day, the three men took part in a reconstruction held at the actual location of the crime. In the reconstruction, the suspects outlined what they said happened, notes were recorded by the police and photographs were taken. Journalists were prevented from attending the reconstruction by hotel management.

Mauritian police have said that skin tissue found under Michaela’s fingernails will prove crucial to the police case against the three men.

The island’s prosecutor will decide whether the two men charged with murder will face those charges in court or whether they will face a lesser charge. If they are found guilty of murder, they face up to 45 years in jail. If they are found guilty of manslaughter they could spend 18 years in prison.

All three suspects will return to court on Wednesday 19/1/2011, when it is expected that they will either be formally charged or released.

Michaela Harte was crying in the minutes before she was strangled, the detective heading the investigation into her death has revealed.

Detective Inspector Ranjit Singh Jokhoo said that tears were running down the 27-year-old teacher’s cheeks minutes before she died.

He said: ‘According to Avinash’s (Treebhoowoon) confession, she was crying after he pushed her to the ground.

‘When she came into the room, Sandip (Mooneea) was near the bathroom, out of her line of view. Avinash has told us that he [Avinash] was searching the purse.

‘The lady said, “What are you doing?” and stayed shouting at him. She was furious that someone was searching her purse and she confronted him.

‘He says he pushed her and she fell near the bathroom. She tried to get up and she was caught by Sandip from behind. She started to cry, the tears were running down her cheeks and she started shouting.

‘Sandip covered her mouth with his hand to quieten her. At the same time he grabbed her with his other arm around her neck. She was standing up at this stage. He tried to press his arm around her neck and this is why there was neck compression. He held her too tightly.’

According to Insp. Jokhoo, Michaela frantically tried to free herself from Sandip’s grasp as she gasped for air.

He said: ‘From the marks we have seen on her neck, we have found that she tried to liberate herself from the arm.

‘We have seen the pattern of the scratches on her neck is going down ways. They are not conclusive observations, but that’s what we have seen.

The pattern coming down comes from pulling and the only person pulling down would have been herself.

‘She was trying to get free from him. When forensics examines the nail clippings we will be able to confirm our own observations.’

He added that when Michaela saw Avinash attempting to take money from her purse she didn’t realize there was someone else in the room – a chilling fact that proved fatal.

Insp. Jokhoo added: ‘From what we have seen, there were not many visible injuries because I think she had been taken by surprise by Sandip. He was pressing hard on her neck and she didn’t have much time.

‘Before that she had made her anger clear to Avinash.

‘She wasn’t happy at all, she was angry and shouting at the man, but she perhaps may not have done that if she had known there was a second man in the room.’

Michaela’s body was later discovered by her husband in the bath, where her killers had put her and then filled with water in an apparent bid to remove traces connecting them to the crime.

She was still wearing an orange-colored bikini top and black shorts and her clothing had not been disturbed.

The detective in charge of investigating the murder of Michaela Harte knew ‘straight away’ that her husband had nothing to do with her death.

Detective Inspector Ranjit Singh Jokhoo said John McAreavey was left ‘shattered and broken’ by the murder of his new bride.

He said: ‘When I saw him he was just like a child, crying and weeping. He was in tears the whole time, he was shattered. We tried to comfort him but we had to ask him some questions. We were actually embarrassed asking him those questions because he was so grief-stricken. He was shattered and broken.’

Mr Jokhoo, heading up investigations in Mauritius, was one of the first police officers to speak to Mr McAreavey after he found his wife’s lifeless body.

‘My colleagues took him for questioning because he was the first person on the scene, which is normal. At around 10pm I went to see him. He was in a very bad state, but I knew straight away that he was in no way involved. I knew by his behavior and my instinct told me he had no part in her death.’

The day after the murder, John McAreavey was accompanied back to the room by Detective Inspector Jokhoo. ‘He just kept weeping; it was very hard to see. He had lost his wife and was shattered.
